Career Connect Scoops Financial Leadership Trophy at the Third Sector Awards

At a packed ceremony in London, Career Connect were recognised for their outstanding financial management of Charity resources!

Recently retired Director of Finance and Corporate Services, David Barlow accepted the award on behalf of the Career Connect Finance Team, with national recognition for Financial Leadership. A team of 12 staff managed a combined turnover of £37m across seven organisations in 2014-2015. The team's commitment and expertise have enabled Career Connect's customers to reduce their financial management costs by 30 per cent, and improved their understanding of financial information, which has led to better decision making.

The income generated from this work has made the Career Connect finance team self-funding and enabled the organisation to direct more funds into delivery of services.  The judges were impressed with the focus on directing resources to frontline delivery and reducing back-office costs whilst maintain robust financial infrastructure.

Andrew O’Brien, Head of Policy and Engagement at the Charity Finance Group, said: "This is an excellent example of how financial leadership in charities can have positive benefits for one organisation and for many. Finance is about marshalling and effectively using resources, and David has demonstrated this despite the difficult financial environment his charity and others are operating in."
